Orkut.com has a message for you
I was introduced to internet through youtube and orkut.com. Orkut was also my first social networking site before facebook, Instagram, whatsapp, twitter, linkedin, snapchat and whatnot. While everyone in my class had an account, we were busied all day exchanging scraps, putting on the latest theme, and writing weird About me on our profile.
It all started back in 2004, when google launched its first social networking website where user could create their profiles with all the details and interact with their friends in the most fun way possible. We got up to creepy hearty messages in our scrapbook as we get on whatsapp now, makes me wonder the world hasn’t changed, just way we live.
Well, with the advent of online social media and aggressive takeover by Facebook to over almost all of the database on the internet, orkut’s worth and what it could provide seemed ‘very small’ and just like a good surgeon, Google decided to shut it down, Forever. On September 30, 2014, google announced that Orkut would no longer be live for its user and trust us folks, no matter how busy was I, I did get time to feel sad and nostalgic.
Well Orkut’s been down for over three years now, and just a quick question, did you even care to visit the website, out of sheer curiosity to what you might find there. Well. I did and just as a good thriller movie I found out that orkut was named after an engineer from Turkey who created it. So, “Orkut Büyükkökten”, creator of orkut has a message for you all which you might want to look at. RIGHT HERE
